  • Celery Joins the Vegetable Power List

    April 7, 2015
I have always loved celery’s bold snap of flavor in the Thanksgiving turkey dressing, or homemade soups and tossed salads. For me celery and onions are quick, easy cooking accents that add flavor in place of extra salt or sugar. Dicing up celery for pasta sauce, homemade split pea soup or turkey meatloaf is an automatic ...

    April 1, 2015
Sometimes it is easy to just accept the social flow of our day as a regular occurrence without any added impact. We all have coffee, meet for drinks, plan lunches or dinners, and find lots of ways to stay in touch with others, and we may not give much thought to the added value of ...
  • Ways Our Words Can Help or Hurt Others

    March 25, 2015
Recently I read an article in reminding me of the power of words in our lives. The article featured research by Professor Rebecca Levy from Yale who said seniors who are repeatedly told they were old and not doing well, were more likely to have problems with memory and balance. The effect of the ...

  • Where Do You Stand on Change?

    March 10, 2015
For many years I thought of change as a nuisance. I would just get a routine, job or situation lined up and something would trigger a change. Of course, it can be a headache to move, look for a different job or adopt a new health routine imposed by your doctor. And sometimes it even ...
  • Simple Ways To Give Smoking The Slip for Good

    February 23, 2015
If you or someone in your family smokes, you can probably recite most of the warnings about danger to heart and lungs, and cancer risks. You may also know someone who wound up with a lung disease, heart trouble or pancreatic cancer. I have seen many people in my family fight the urge to smoke, ...
  • Ways Black Tea May Benefit Your Health or Put You At Risk

    February 19, 2015
Black tea is right up there with coffee as a daily premium fuel. Researchers agree; they say black tea, which has a lot of caffeine and theophylline, another stimulant, can boost energy and alertness, and may deliver a whole string of additional health benefits. Try Ice Tea As An Afternoon Pick-Me-Up After lunch, iced black tea with ...
